Fun Family Vacation

Wow...taking a trip with just my hubby and a trip with all my kids within weeks of each other revealed a GLARING difference between the two types of getaways!  One was very relaxing, one... not so much. Gratefully though, both were so much fun!

This getaway was to San Diego.  I haven't been there since I was a little girl and I LOVED it!

Normally, we wouldn't schedule a vacation just a few weeks before school is out, but Lance had to go to training for work and so he picked a place the entire family could go and enjoy.  And, because it was a trip for work pretty much everything was paid for by work which made the whole experience even better!

Our first stop on Monday was Legoland.  Fortunately, Lance's class didn't start until Tuesday because you can't do amusement parks with a toddler and only one adult...not even one like Legoland which is made for younger kids.

We ate a lot of good food.  We found super great BBQ (Phil's), yummy pizza (Zia Gourmet) and we went to a place I've been wanting to go for a long time.  I saw it on Diners, Drive-Inns, and Dives and it looked so good.  It did not disappoint.  It's called Blue Water Grill.  We all had fish (because that's what they serve).  Sophie even loved the Ahi Poke...i.e. raw tuna!
We went to the Temple.  It is so beautiful and right next to the freeway so it looks very impressive driving by or walking around the grounds.  And speaking of yummy food... the temple is literally right across the freeway from a Sprinkles Cupcake shop...a place we visited a few times on our trip!
Most mornings we ate breakfast in our hotel room.  It's just too hard to get everyone up and ready to go eat first thing in the morning.  But one morning we decided to venture out and try a breakfast place people down there rave about.  It's called The Mission.  It did not disappoint!  Soooo good and portion control is definitely not something they are concerned with!
Of course we went to the San Diego Zoo one day and the Safari Park another.  They were both incredible.
Another day we went to La Jolla to the Children's Pool.  It's not actually a pool, but a walled off area of the ocean originally built for children so they could have a safe place to swim.  Over time it became a favorite hang out for seals.  There are about a hundred seals there at any given time and you are able to get really close to them.  It was fun to see.
Our hotel was amazing and had a couple of beautiful pools where we spent a lot of time as well.  We played tennis at our hotel one evening and looked for seashells on the beach.  It was a perfect family vacation.  The only part that would have been better was if Lance could have done more with us during the day, but still we had a great time and hope to make it back down there again someday!
